Sania Mirza has become the first Indian tennis player to be ranked World No. 1 in women’s doubles, “It's a dream come true. For me, my family, and my country too," she said after the historic win. The unstoppable achiever on the tennis court can teach all of us a few lessons on beating all odds. Here’s a look at what keeps her motivated and go for more.
Injuries didn’t stop her:
The recurring wrist injury posed a threat to her career, but that didn’t stop Sania. She took a call to focus full time on doubles in 2012. "It was a tough call to take, but my body just couldn't cope any longer.”
Revisiting her strategies:
Time and again, Sania has talked about having to re-set her goals and change her strategies. She says that he is glad she made a few decisions to reach where she is.
Acknowledging team work:
Sania and Martina Hinges won as a team at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston. Sania, who has been an ardent fan of Hinges’ game, said, “I hope we have many, many more tournaments and end the year on a high as well. Sania kept praising Hingis and said, “I don’t want to make you feel old, but I did watch you as a kid! You were an idol to most young girls at the time. You made it when you were 15!”
Counting her blessings:
I hav so many people to thank but first and foremost I want to thank God 😇 I feel so so blessed ..
