If you were tempted to dismiss your mum’s cajoling to get a good night’s rest as not important, you need to think again – since it makes a world of a difference to your skin and how it looks. Studies have shown that tiredness is related to looking less healthy and attractive as compared with someone who has gotten a full night’s rest.

A lack of sufficient hours rest can stress out your body and can trigger spots. The stratum corneum, which is the outermost layer of your skin repairs itself dorm the daily trauma your skin goes through in the form of UV rays and pollution. Since our skin cells regenerate, this makes it a good time to complete a proper cleansing-toning-moisturising routine before hitting your bed. Be aware, however, that your skin loses a lot of moisture while you sleep. So, look for products meant specifically for the night as they tend to be more moisturising than day creams.  If you don’t give your skin this time to recover and rejuvenate, it results in dehydrated, wrinkled, botchy and puffy skin. Aim to clock in seven to eight hours sleep every night and wake up to prettier skin.
