Deepika Padukone’s career path has been nothing short of inspiring – she’s won accolades for her performances on-screen, she’s launched her very own mental health foundation Live Love Laugh, and she is an investor in many start-up brands such Epigamia and FrontRow. Now, she’s dived head-first into entrepreneurship – launching her very own self-care brand 82°E. Ahead of her first drop, a skincare line, Deepika sat exclusively with Healthntrends and opened up about the brand. On when she first got the idea to start the brand…Deepika: It’s been something that I’ve been thinking about for quite some time. It first started out as just a thought, a dream, a vision – it often remains just that – but I felt now was the right time to launch it. It’s the right time when it comes to my career, it is the right time where I am emotionally. And, also, where our country is, globally. When the intent is right – that’s when the magic happens. On what sets her brand apart…Our brand is true and it is authentic. My father always taught me that what you do, you do with honesty; don’t worry about the money, the success, all that will follow. I have applied that philosophy to everything in my life and that holds particularly true for the birth of this brand. I feel that this brand is so close to me and who I truly am, and that’s what sets it apart. On why she launched with just two products…It stems from my own experience with skincare over the years, and also wanting to keep things simple. In my skincare journey, I found the information and content around me was a little overpowering and overwhelming. So I felt like, if I were able to do this, I want to do the opposite, which is just to simplify. The audience, a large part of our country, is still not exposed to in-depth beauty knowledge. I think we have access to the digital and to social media but, if you zoom out a bit, there is a large audience to whom the concept of skin health is still very new. To kind of make it more simplified and to make it more relatable, that is what prompted us to launch with just these two products. On the best beauty advice she’s received - and from whom…
Less is more – that’s what my mother taught me. It’s something that she told me when I was quite young, and that’s what has stuck with me through life. I actually apply it to other aspects of my life. But, yes, to my skincare routine especially.View this post on Instagram
On how her beauty philosophy has evolved over her career…I grew up when beauty pageants were a huge thing. And they were the only path to the entertainment field. From then to now, it has been an evolution. It has been a journey of learning, evolution and growth. Because you realise that there’s so much more to beauty than just what we’ve been fed for so many years. It’s not just about symmetry; you realise that beauty is about energy, it’s about the mind, it’s about your soul, it’s about your spirit, it’s about what you stand for. And I think, for me, that’s how the concept of beauty has evolved. On when she’s happiest…When I take care of myself… I feel centred, I feel grounded. And that’s what gives me joy. On her favourite way to take a moment for herself…For me, it’s various self care rituals. Sometimes, it’s just a hot shower, it’s my skincare ritual. I end each day by lighting a candle – and that’s my way of really switching off. Cooking, spending time in nature, exercise, meditating – all these things help. But also what matters is doing them consistently and mindfully. On her skincare secrets…Keeping my skin hydrated, keeping it protected, and keeping it clean. These are the fundamentals of skincare, and how I really look after mine.View this post on Instagram
