From shampoos and conditioners to hair sprays and hair masks plus everything in between, the hair care situation today is a deal of constant innovation and betterment combining a melange of ingredients to create a bespoke solution for every hair type and concern too. We spoke to five industry specialists to understand the truth a.k.a surfeit of benefits of the five hottest ingredients for hair.
“When we decided to venture into hair care formulations, one of the very first criteria for us was to formulate a product that is light on the hair and heavy on goodness. And Sacha Inchi ticked all boxes. It is one of the most omega-rich botanical oils in the world and it contains all the essential amino acids which is a rarity. It is said to contain 17 times the Omega-3 oil content of salmon, as well as all eight essential amino acids. The oil also contains a hefty 50% omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid. Sacha Inchi is a great ingredient to work in formulations because it packs an extreme amount of goodness in a very small volume. Sacha Inchi can work wonders when it comes to keeping the scalp and hair conditioned, relieving irritated or scaly scalps. Studies suggest that emulsions of Sacha Inchi have made the scalp feel highly moisturised and smooth, helping brittle hair regain its elasticity and restoring damaged hair cuticles,” shares Prasanthy Gurugubelli, founder of Daughter Earth.
“Argan oil is extremely rich in tocopherols (Vitamin E), essential fatty acids and antioxidants that hydrate and nourish the hair. Argan oil also contains Linseed extract, derived from flaxseed which is a good source of alpha linolenic acid also an essential fatty acid that helps improve the health of hair. Because of the hectic schedule and improper lifestyle and eating habits today, it is necessary to give that extra nourishment and treatment to your hair,” shares Rahul Akhodia, Product Trainer, Moroccanoil.
Hemp Seed Oil
“Hemp and hair is a match made in heaven. Hemp oil has quite an impressive list of benefits attached to its resume. Cold-pressing the hemp seed creates a natural raw oil that is purified to obtain a transparent, light green, nutty oil with multiple health benefits. Hemp oil is primarily used for hair growth. The way we curate our Hemp hair care, we give an essential focus on sleep and relaxation. The application of hemp oil can help restore calm and soothe a stressed-out mind. Even just a few minutes of meditation each day, along with a hemp hair spa, are very helpful in reducing stress and could help you get out of the stress cycle causing hair loss,” shares Stuti Ashok Gupta, Principal, Brand & Vision at Amrutam.
“It’s a hidden fact that ginger is also a hair elixir of old times. For all major hair issues relating to hair growth, dryness, dandruff, oily scalp jump to this one-stop solution ‘ginger’. Whether you’re shredding too much or have very slow hair growth, the warming and stimulating effects of ginger will work to increase the scalp circulation and encourage healthy hair growth. The antioxidant content ‘Gingerol’ will help to fight free radicals (which damage hair cells and cause hair thinning and hair loss). This aromatic root is rich in minerals and essential oils, making it a great conditioner. Ginger hair conditioner is great to tame your hair making it softer and shinier. Dandruff is when we equate flakes with dryness but actually it’s also an oily scalp that accelerates dandruff.
