At any point, at least a dozen tabs on two separate windows are open on my laptop featuring some of the world’s best-dressed women. It's like a faucet that I often forget to turn off. Despite the variety, I find myself drawn to Kendall Jenner’s style. When she’s not the face of campaigns worth millions, she’s on the streets of New York or LA, completely embracing the anti-fit trend in a crop top, a vest or an oversized blazer paired with some sort of hybrid trouser. I associate with her style the most. Which is why I didn’t quite know how to process my feelings when she appeared in one of her off-duty looks wearing a half sweater; and not the kind of chic half sweaters that Versace and Celine have been doing of late. It was the ugly kind. The last person I saw wear a half sweater like that was my dad circa 1999. And I didn’t feel good about it back then either.

Now, I am not a serial Kendall admirer for nothing. Let’s be honest, even though the dad sweater, from a Belgian label called Namacheko, is not particularly pleasing in itself, she’s still looking good. Her tortoise shell sunglasses frame her face perfectly. She’s wearing those formal/casual crossover trousers that I cannot stop waxing poetic about. The shoes, also in tandem with the unremarkable variety, are matching the whole look. And then, of course, there’s that massive vintage-inspired Peter Do bag that will give all remaining shoppers and tote a run for their money this season.

So, what is the problem? Well, the problem is, I suppose, normcore is coming back and early adopters like Kendall Jenner are only making it that much harder to ignore this trend.
Normcore, a fashion movement loosely based on idolising the scruffy contents of our wardrobes which would otherwise end up in the giving away pile, is making a comeback after 7 years. And although one might think that nailing the dad/uncle aesthetics is easy, it is anything but. But maybe, with models like Kendall (it's only a matter of time until Gigi, Bella, or Kaia are spotted wearing one of these again) dipping their toes in the trend this time around, inspiration to look good won’t be in short supply!
