Chatting up with Sonam Kapoor is always fun because this diva speaks her mind and you can't help but notice the ease with which she reinvents herself effortlessly. We caught up with Sonam at The Artisan Awards 2015 where she shared about the launch of her upcoming label, love for jewellery and ‘guilt free’ shopping indulgences among other things.
You are excited about the launch of your high street fashion brand ' Rheson,' with your sister Rhea Kapoor. What will be the USP of it and how will it be different from the other brands that are out there?
Like every woman, I am fond of fashion and since people usually compliment me for my sense of style, I am excited about putting together a fashion line along with my sister Rhea. The label will be called ‘Rheson’ which is a combination of our names. Instead of high fashion, it will be rather high street, keeping in mind Indian body type and comfort factor at the same time. The ensembles will be designed keeping in mind the young, Indian women who would want to indulge in trendy yet affordable fashion.
How has your sense of style and fashion evolved over the ages?
I believe that as one grows up, their sense of style matures and they learn the art of grooming themselves fashionably. But when I look back at my photographs from my earlier days, I do not really criticize myself since I feel that is how my fashion sense has evolved and it is all a part of me.
What do ‘trends’ mean to you? How do you keep yourself updated about what is trending?
When it comes to putting a look for a film or a public appearance, my stylists share their inputs. Apart from that, I prefer wearing what I am in the mood for and to which occasion I need to go to. I do not really follow trends, as an individual I rather prefer to march to the beat of my own drums!
Are you addicted to shopping like most women?
I would not really want to speak about my ‘addictions’ yet, but I am an impulsive shopper by nature is all I can confess. So if I like something I just buy it without thinking too much about it. I am quick to know what I want but at times I feel that it is also nice to consult friends for opinions before I make a purchase.
Are you fond of jewellery as well?
It might sound surprising, but I really love traditional jewellery. There is an old-world charm about them that draws me to such antique pieces. Of late, I have also started indulging in a lot of fashion jewellery that can be easily mixed and matched to create an interesting look.
Your quick tips to look stylish always!
Never overdo anything in the name of fashion, rather keep it simple and stylish with minimalistic glam. This never fails to work across all occasions. More specifically, opt for a well-fitted black dress, red lipstick and a piece of jadau necklace to set off an evening look glamorously.
