Finale: Ethnic Designer of the Year

Craftsvilla.com, India’s largest Ethnic Online Store, and Healthntrends, India’s largest and most widely read women’s magazine came together at The Leela Hotel, Mumbai, to announce the first ever Ethnic Designer of the Year with the primary focus being to seek and award the best design talent across the country.

Out of the 1500 entries we received, five contestants were shortlisted by a panel of judges. These five participants created and showcased their ensembles through a fashion show with the support and the expertise of the Healthntrends, Craftsvilla.com team and mentor, designer Shruti Sancheti. This was judged by eminent personalities from the industry like Actors Shilpa Shetty and Shruti Haasan, designer and politician Shaina NC, photographer Jatin Kampani, Healthntrends editor, Tanya Chaitanya and Craftsvilla.com's Pratik Shah.

Ethnic Designer of the year

The evening was hosted by the gorgeous Mini Mathur and marked with some spectacular performances by kathak dancer Prachi Shah and singer Chinmayee, and the breathtaking presentation of the collections by Shruti Sancheti and the five contestants. At the end of the evening, judges unanimously announced Satyaki Chanda as the winner of the first ever Craftsvilla.com Healthntrends Ethnic Designer of the Year award. The budding designer was felicitated with Craftsvilla.com Healthntrends Ethnic Designer of the Year 2015 trophy. In addition, Satyaki has also been given an opportunity to showcase his collection on Craftsvilla.com as well as get featured in the subsequent issue of the Healthntrends magazine. He was enthralled about his win and said, "this award has given me recognition and my belief in my dream has become stronger than ever before. I am filled with a new enthusiasm and excitement to go further and pursue my goals."

Apart from Satyaki, another contestant Apeksha Natani was also declared the winner of the Craftsvilla.com Healthntrends Ethnic Designer of the Year - Popular Choice. She was selected by Healthntrends readers through online voting that was held over a period of one month. The young designer, who took inspiration from the Dabu art of Rajasthan is now determined to carry on her research on other such lesser known and dying arts in India and bring them to limelight with her designs. 

Talking about the event, Tanya Chaitanya editor, Healthntrends said, “Young people with big ideas need established platforms to see their dreams come true. Healthntrends is all too happy to provide that avenue to talented, aspiring fashion designers, hone their skills and watch one of them become a star.”
