Lakmé Fashion Week summer/resort 2015 was all about staying cool and looking stylish. Luckily premium international ice-cream brand Magnum teamed up with Healthntrends to help the fashion crowd beat the heat. Working with our pick of the best designers, Magnum invited each one to create their own #DesignerMagnum. Inspired by their latest collections, each designer decorated a bar of Magnum with their choice of topping to create an ice cream that was as pretty to look at as it was delicious to eat.
Sailex
First up was Sailex, who named his #DesignerMagnum the ‘Impromptu’. Sorbet colours and flowers echoed the themes of his resort-worthy collection which saw pretty chinoiserie prints and shades of lavender, pink and olive.
Shruti Sancheti
Shruti’s collection used traditional Indian techniques to create contemporary silhouettes. “My design philosophy is a blend of various crafts, textiles and weaves from different cultures. Similarly on my Magnum I blended nuts, fruits and sauces.”
Shon Randhawa
Designer Shon Randhawa’s collection for her label Patine was inspired by the Seventies and everything that it embodied—free spirits, bohemian abandon and clothing like kaftans, shirt dresses and more. The result was her delicious and eclectic ‘Retro Magnum’.
Veda Raheja
The Mumbai-based designer’s spring/summer line was inspired by Renaissance architecture and the, “quiet untold stories in the worn out stone surfaces”. Veda took a series of photographs that she then turned into paintings and finally transformed into prints. For her #DesignerMagnum Veda created the cracks and lines of stone using almond flakes, flowers and chocolate chips.
Ragini Ahuja
New Delhi-based Ragini is the brains behind Ikai, one of the most promising labels of the season. The designer’s India-via-Japan inspired collection featured polka dot, 3D fringed cranes and appliqué fan details on expertly tailored coats, kurtas, shirts and more. Dubbed ‘Imported from Japan Ikai Style’ her #DesignerMagnum also had, “red polkas, chocolate shavings worked beautifully as the leather florals from the season and a hint of silver.”
Riddhi Mehra
Riddhi was inspired by the Mughal era after reading Indu Sundaresan’s popular novel, The Twentieth Wife, the story of empress Nur Jahan. “I love Mughal sheesh mahals so I tried to create a mirror effect on my clothes using hand cut and stitched materials. For her #DesignerMagnum Riddhi used the summery colours of her collection, mint green, peach and pink.
Nikhil Thampi
We love Nikhil for his bold, unabashedly sexy aesthetic—the red carpet for one is a much more exciting place with celebs like Kalki Koechlin and Deepika Padukone sporting his designs. No surprise then that his spring/summer collection was an ode to Bollywood with shiny metallics, leather accents and cut-out details. Not to miss out on the bling, his #DesignerMagnum also featured edible gold foil and silver beads as well as plenty of berries.
Nishka Lulla
Nishka has made her name for her airy, easy-to-wear silhouettes and fun, feminine aesthetic. Her latest collection was no different with its cool pastel hues and delicate floral print—all elements you can see on her #DesignerMagnum. But one thing is clear for Nishka, when it comes to her label, it’s the, “cut and finish of a garment that’s the most important thing. Print or embellishment comes after. The fit of a garment is what flatters you the most.”
Nishka was also presented with her very own, inedible #DesignerMagnum created by the team at Magnum. Inspired by her aesthetic, the creation was decorated with silver beads and floral add-ons. Now if only we could eat that as well!
