The colour yellow has many associations. Some positive, some negative. Yellow fever, cowardice, sunshine yellow, golden yellow, sunny side up yellow…But it’s a colour that is unmistakably associated with summer. But yellow is not a colour for the faint hearted. And though it’s a happy colour, yellow needs to be treated right. We got professional designers to give us tips to get it right.

"From ámber to mustard to Jonquil, there are as many as 38 shades of yellow. Yellow might not be everyone’s color but yellow is one color that has got so many shades that no matter what your preference, you will definitely like one of the shades. The trick with wearing yellow is not to wear it from head to toe. You need to balance it out,’’ says Delhi based designer Pawan Sachdeva.

Yellow might not be everyone’s darling color but its one coloúr that can brighten up your outfit. Yellow photographs very well in pictures but what is a person to do if she or he is not so confident of carrying off a yellow dress?  Designer duo Saiba and Maneet of ‘Voiix’ suggest that if you are not confident wearing yellow pants or dresses then, start small. Choose to wear yellow in small pieces and then go for the full fledged yellow look. "Start by wearing yellow scarfs, belts and other accessories then gradually move to yellow shorts or pants. We are pretty sure that once you get used to yellow, you will love it. Also for a classic look, pair orange and yellow,’’ they say.

Designer Chhaya Mehrotra’s SS15 collection ‘Bubbly Banarasi’ has a lot of yellows. From yellow skirts to yellow palazzos, her latest collection is spunky, fun and very cheery. Chhaya says, "Pastel colors like blue and pink with yellow create a fresh and fun look."

So go on, mix some hues with your favourite yellow and get ready for a stylish summer.
