Buying jewellery is no easy decision. Should you spend all your Diwali money on one statement piece? Or should you invest in one special, yet pocket-friendly extra. Nathalie Colin, Creative Director and Executive Vice President Communication, Consumer Goods Division Swarovski, gives us her advice on building your treasure trove.
What links Swarovski to Diwali?
The festive season in general is the perfect moment for Swarovski – we are all about sparkling, gift giving. What particularly resonates with us for Diwali is the idea of light, that is what Swarovski is all about, it’s one of our key brand attributes.
What do you think people will be buying this Diwali?
We do really well with sets—necklace and matching earrings. It’s a wonderful gift. In general our Indian clientele like very light, delicate craftsmanship. They also really like gold. In countries its different, say in Germany, silver is very popular, but in India it’s gold or even pink gold among the younger generation.
What are the key pieces that every budget shopper should consider?
I would definitely say a pair of beautiful, statement earrings. Preferably with a matching necklace. They can be really stunning and you can wear it so easily. Another big trend is stacking of bracelets. In India particularly it’s part of a very traditional way of wearing bracelets so it would be great if we could mix traditionally designed bracelets with modern styles. When you mix the two together it’s very interesting.
And what is a piece of jewellery that you can splurge on?
I think it’s a beautiful, all-around, round necklace. You can always pull it out and wear it for many years to come. Or even a stunning cocktail ring.
