Deepika Padukone’s personal style has been in news as much as her movies. The svelte actress has effortlessly set trends—be it her simple kurta pyajamas in Piku or the flared ghagras in Goliyon ki Raasleela-Ram Leela. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that she decided to come up with her own fashion brand ‘All About You’ in collaboration with Myntra. In a candid chat with Healthntrends she talks about her personal style and why her collection is unique.
Tell us about your fashion line
As celebrities we do have stylists but not everyone else has the luxury of enlisting the help of one. With this in mind, Myntra wanted to make my personal style more accessible to women all over the world. They thought of coming up with a collection that’s an interpretation of my personality. The clothes are all about being stylish without trying too hard. It’s a smaller aspect of my personality that I am exploring. The ensembles are comfortable, young, fun and simple but they will make you feel good. Through the line we are telling girls that wear what you are comfortable in and look confidently stylish.
How is the collection unique?
The collection is very me. While growing up, my mother was a huge influence on me. She dressed simply but elegantly and I have got it from her. The clothes match my sensibilities. Also, you will see that soft colours like whites, pinks, peaches and cream have been used profusely—these are my favourites. The colours are feminine and romantic.
Since you like to dress simply, how was it carrying off heavily embellished clothes with layers of fabrics in Bajirao Mastani?
At times, it was difficult as we were shooting in a dessert. It wasn’t the most comfortable thing to do. But when you get into the skin of the character and you are shooting you try not to let such things as heat bother you or affect your work.
This is your second movie with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. How was the experience different from the first one?
I was a lot more prepared this time in terms of his expectations from me as an actor and also from the character. He is very demanding but that’s a big positive as he pushes you to a certain limit where you start discovering things about yourself. Initially you might find this very difficult but the end result is very satisfying.
What do you think about your co-star Ranveer Singh’s personal style?
His clothes are an extension of his personality. He is very expressive, confident, enthusiastic and extremely energetic. I feel all these qualities reflect on his clothes.
Among your contemporaries, who’s style do you like?
I feel Sonam Kapoor is always very well dressed.
