Sexist comments that shocked us

Dalai Lama had said a few days back that his successor should be a woman but a very attractive woman otherwise there is not much use. Here's a list of some sudden sexist statements from respected people that have us in shock.

The Dalai Lama
The Dalai Lama recently suggested that any potential female successor to his role “must be very, very, attractive”. During an interview with the BBC, he said there was no reason why a future Dalai Lama could not be a woman – but she would have to be good looking otherwise she would be “not much use”.

Mulayam Singh Yadav
The Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav dismissed the Shakti Mills rape incident in Mumbai by stating that “boys are boys”. He said, "The poor fellows, three of them have been sentenced to death. Should rape cases lead to hanging? Boys are boys, they make mistakes. Two or three have been given the death sentence in Mumbai. We will try and change such laws...we will also ensure punishment of those who report false cases." In fact, Barkha Dutt gave a glimpse into his sexist attitude when she tweeted this:

Narendra Modi
Remember his ‘Wah kya girlfriend hai’ remark? This was in 2012 when he took a potshot at Shashi Tharoor in the light of the IPL controversy. He said this about Sunanda Pushkar, "Wah kya girlfriend hai. Aapne kabhi dekha hai 50 crore ka girlfriend?" (What a girlfriend! Have you ever seen a Rs 50 crore girlfriend?)
Also, after he became the Prime Minister, he made a somewhat bizarre statement for or against dowry. We’re confused. The PM said, “When a daughter is born, plant a tree. Twenty years later, you can sell five trees for her wedding”. Err?

Abhijit Mukherjee
Congress MP and President Pranab Mukherjee’s son came under the fire after he made what can be called a ‘I have lost my marbles, please pardon me’ comment: He said, "dented-painted women protesters in Delhi went to discotheques and then turned up at India Gate to express outrage.’’

Donald Trump
If there were ever an award on ‘How not to behave and what not to say’, this guy would win it hands down. Here are some Donald Trump classics:
From his book, Trump 101: The Way to Success: Beauty and elegance, whether in a woman, a building, or a work of art is not just superficial or something pretty to see

On his daughter Ivanka:
I don’t think Ivanka would do that [pose for Playboy], although she does have a very nice figure. I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.

On US actor, author and comedian Rosie O'Donnell: Rosie O'Donnell is disgusting — both inside and out. If you take a look at her, she's a slob. How does she even get on television? If I were running The View, I'd fire Rosie. I'd look her right in that fat, ugly face of hers and say, "Rosie, you're fired." We're all a little chubby but Rosie's just worse than most of us. But it's not the chubbiness — Rosie is a very unattractive person, both inside and out.
