With 6.5 million annual visitors, the monument to love has been ranked the second best-loved landmark in the world 

The travel experts at Bounce have put together a list of the most-loved landmarks in the world after analysing factors such as Instagram posts, annual visitor numbers, entry price and TripAdvisor ratings. 


And, happily, our very own Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, finds itself ranked second in the list of best-loved landmarks across the globe. With 6,532,366 annual visitors, the memorial of love from emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal is a symbol of our rich history, and a major visitor draw. Google search numbers cross 23 million annually, and the monument grosses a revenue of $ 53.2 million a year. 

Here are the top five attractions in the list: 

The Niagara Falls, Canada

Ranked first on the list of most-loved landmarks globally, Niagara Falls is located on the border of Canada and the USA. The attraction is free to visit and attracts 11.7 million visitors annually. It enjoys a 5/5 rating on peer-reviewed websites such as TripAdvisor, and the annual Google search volume is about 18,093,000.

The Grand Canyon, The United States
Nature lovers and adventurers are drawn to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the United States of America. The humongous canyon, # 3 on the list, is known for its layered bands of red rock, which date back 1.2 billion years.  The site is a favourite on Instagram (4 million posts and counting), and gets 6.2 million visitors annually.

The Golden Gate Bridge, The United States 
Also in the USA, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is the fourth most-loved landmark in the world. One of the most famous bridges ever, it sees 15 million annual visitors, and has over 6 million Google searches.

The Statue of Liberty, The United States
Situated off New York City, the Statue of Liberty stands tall as a symbol of freedom and democracy. Entry to the landmark is free, and it receives 4.2 million visitors each year, as well as over 12.5 million Google searches.

Other than these, on the basis of the survey, the three most-visited landmarks across the world are the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Sydney Opera House (above) in Australia, and the Empire State Building in the United States.
