Our lives have started to revolve around our phones completely. Not just for a few hours, but we all are constantly on our phones-- scrolling through social media, clicking pictures, watching videos, watching Netflix, reading news, ordering food or other stuff...everything is on our phones now.

Our lives have started to revolve around our phones completely. Not just for a few hours, but we all are constantly on our phones-- scrolling through social media, clicking pictures, watching videos, watching Netflix, reading news, ordering food or other stuff...everything is on our phones now.

And even though smartphones are a brilliant example of the rapid-pace with which technology is progressing, I do feel that we need a halt, we all need to halt-- take that break, go on a digital detox and learn to live life without an external reason, supporting us/controlling us at all times.

It's overwhelming, exhausting, tiresome and also at times painful,to say the least.

Not only the bodily harm (like- headaches and vision issues) but also the "Bigger impact" it is having on us, the impact it's having on our most powerful tool- our brain.

And that I believe, is a cause of significant concern.

It's easy to say that- "Oh, life was simple in the olden days", but that was also because there was no added pressure-- to look good always, to snap every moment of our lives, to show every damn thing that we were doing and most of all, get in a loophole of constant comparisons. Beauty is a game now, every other girl on the Internet is a reason for self-doubts for the rest and why is that so..because we are constantly being flooded by filtered images of people and that is why the reality is going far far away from us, because we all have found the easy way to welcome "edited reality" with open arms.

The trend of followers, likes or comments are all indicators of "fake brittle popularity" and till the time we encourage that, there is no scope for actual reality to reach us. And that will just take us away from the "essence" of living the human life.

Today, work is on the phone and hence, it's difficult to keep away from technology completely. But there are always little ways to start and build on a life where phones just become a basic need, but not our entire lives.

Avoid checking your phone first thing in the morning, because that just doesn't give your day a fresh start.

Feeding yourselves too much information first thing in the morning, doesn't leave room for some quiet time with oneself.

Try to shut off your internet access, when a phone is not needed.

When taking a break, take an "actual" break-- sit with your family, enjoy some moments of solitude, listen to music, dance, workout, paint, cook, bake etc.

Stop being on your phones and keep it away from you at times when it is possible and serious work is not taking place.
Control your social media platforms consumption by setting up reminders and reinforcing in your mind the same.
Take 30 minutes- 1 hour timeline where you keep your phone away.

These were just a few steps to start off with, that will slowly start detoxifying your system without getting completely rid of it.
