Learning through mistakes while surviving the highs and lows of entrepreneurship is part of the inspiring success story of Garima Agarwal and her brand Peekaboo Patterns. Best known for design, manufacture and retail, the brand also curates products from over 40 national and international brands. Its flagship store in Chennai also customises products and designs to customers’ ideas and suggestions.
The multitasking mompreneur began with a single product brand and has since expanded into three businesses. Creative since childhood, Garima has an eye for detail and a thirst for perfection. “It has been a pretty satisfying journey for me so far, not only working on sustainability, using natural raw materials, avoiding waste, and doing everything that is best for the ecosystem, but also staying true to my vision of bringing conscious parenting into the lives of every child we touch,” she enthuses. “What matters most to me is to offer services and create products that integrate joy into functionality. It has been great to increase awareness through our Facebook and Instagram family, which has grown naturally. Through my business, I hope to make a difference in society by nourishing future generations.”
Garima has put in 17 years of hard work and dedication to become one of the recognised kid’s brands in Chennai, with two brick-and-mortar stores, a huge workshop, and an impressive presence on the internet with a devoted customer base across the nation. “This journey of slow and steady growth is purely driven by passion, skill, innovation, quality control and hard work,” she explains.
Last year, she launched Peekaboo Interiors, which offers ready-to-pick-up furniture, furnishings and accessories, as well as handles turnkey interior projects for kids’ spaces and dramatically-different themed kids’ rooms. The pandemic had an impact on every business sector, but that didn’t stop Garima from achieving her goals. The quiet moments of the first few lockdowns inspired her to collaborate with her family’s apparel export business. In 2021, ‘Bootiful’, a brand of smart casual clothing for children, was also launched.
“The pandemic taught us flexibility and adaptability,” she recalls. “With study-at-home experiences, parents learned how to be prepared for unforeseen scenarios, and the focus shifted to living the moment. With children spending more time at home, we are well equipped to provide instant makeovers that meet their needs, such as libraries and play areas,” she adds, about how her business survived during the pandemic.
The multi-award winning Garima says, “My satisfaction comes from promoting responsible parenting through my business. I enjoy nothing more than providing new parents with helpful advice. It’s the nicest feeling to be able to make a difference with our products and services.” She is preparing for the festive season with new designs and products, as well as a project aimed at helping underprivileged children.
