In a world fixated with beauty based on external appearances, the past few years have revealed something more precious: the beauty of goodness. The goodness of treating people right, of tending to animals who cannot speak for themselves, of cleaning up the environment for future generations, of unconditionally helping those around you. Early this year, Mamaearth and Healthntrends joined hands to search nationwide for goodness ambassadors among creators, corporates, celebrities and people in general. It was the genesis of Mamaearth & Healthntrends Present Beautiful Indians 2022.
The Beautiful Indians website served as a platform to which individuals could send in their nominations. These were both self nominations as well as recommendations from individuals of people who have been selflessly doing acts of goodness for those around them. The website received a heart-warming number of entries, which were then shortlisted by our eminent jury.

A Night of Goodness And Glamour
Beautiful Indians 2022 culminated in an evening filled with glamour and goodness on April 5 at St Regis Mumbai, which celebrated the goodness ambassadors who were first among equals in their efforts to make the world a better place. The event witnessed Ranveer Singh being awarded with the Showman of the Generation, Ayushmann Khurrana winning the Disruptor Of The Year accolade, Taapsee Pannu bagging the Trailblazing Artiste Of The Year award, Vaani Kapoor claiming the Standout Star of the Year award, Armaan Maalik being named the Voice of a Generation, and Manushi Chhillar the Youth Icon of Year. Raja Kumari was deemed the Fearless Artiste of the Year, and Prajakta Koli the Star Influencer.
Mamaearth and Healthntrends believe that beauty lies in good actions. It’s in our conscious choices for people and planet.

As bright as these stars was the very inspiring Thaaragai Aarathana, the eight-year-old diver from Chennai who has already collected 600 kilos of plastic from the ocean to help conserve marine life, among other People for Good awardees, Dr Swati Piramal who was felicitated as a Corporate for Good for her work in rural health, and Sakshi Sindwani and Raj Shamani who were lauded as Creators for Good, among others, for their work in building body positivity and financial literacy respectively. Chef Sanjeev Kapoor was celebrated for his many years of supporting the Akshaya Patra meal scheme; his fellow Celeb for Good awardees included actors Divya Khosla Kumar, Amyra Dastur, Tejasswi Prakash and Shirley Setia for their work to alleviate suffering through the pandemic.
The goodness ambassadors that we felicitated on April 5 were arrived upon after much deliberation by the prestigious jury, featuring co-founders of Mamaearth Ghazal Alagh and Varun Alagh, Healthntrends Editor-in-Chief Ambika Muttoo, actor Shefali Shah, author and filmmaker Tahira Kashyap Khurrana, and director of Hemkunt Foundation Harteerath Singh Ahluwalia.

The Coming Together Of Two Good Brands
Varun Alagh and Ghazal Alagh
“We started Mamaearth with a vision to serve a greater purpose,” says cofounder Ghazal Alagh, adding, “We made our products toxin free, and initiated brand promises such as Plant Goodness and Plastic Positive. We have always believed that doing little acts of goodness makes people truly beautiful. With this thought, we partnered with Healthntrends, the epitome of beauty standards, to join us in this journey of finding Beautiful Indians and celebrating them at the event. We hope this partnership grows and we are able to identify and celebrate more such stories in the future as well.”
Editor-In-Chief of Healthntrends Ambika Muttoo said, “We, at Healthntrends, believe that every noble deed, no matter how small or big, is beautiful. These acts and the individuals leading the change have enriched our lives by making the world a better place. Our association with Mamaeath sees us taking the next big step towards celebrating these unsung heroes. Through our nationwide search to recognise these goodness ambassadors, we have sought to inspire and encourage our readers to bring about change for the better.”
Kubbra Sait’s energy as emcee for the evening was infectious, while singing sensation Antara Mitra hit all the right notes. It was indeed a night of glamour and goodness, and the goodness truly shone bright.
