The inaugural edition of the Lollapalooza India festival is all set to take place at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse next year. The two-day event will be held on January 28-29, marking the Asia debut of the famous music festival, which originated in America, and over the past decade, has expanded internationally to Santiago, São Paulo and Buenos Aires in South America, and Berlin, Paris and Stockholm in Europe.
While this exciting news was announced by Lollapalooza earlier this year, they’ve just dropped the entire line-up for the Mumbai leg, and we can’t keep calm! Yes, a general ticket costs about Rs 8,999, with VIP packages starting from Rs 19,999, and the platinum ticket priced at Rs 64,999, so we might not make it to the event, but we can dream.
There are a total of 40 international and Indian artistes that will perform over the two-day event. Headliners are … wait for it… arena-rock band Imagine Dragons and the indie-rock band The Strokes! The star-studded line-up also includes American rock band Greta Van Fleet; dream pop band Cigarettes After Sex; UK indie-rock band The Wombats; indie-pop band Japanese Breakfast; pop artist Jackson Wang; electronic artists Imanbek, Zhu, Madeon, Kasablanca and Apashe; and American DJ and music producer Diplo. That’s not all, Indo-American pop artist Raveena will make a country debut, as will indie-pop singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin and singer-producer Chelsea Cutler.
Coming to Indian performers, the line-up boasts of AP Dhillon and Prateek Kuhad. Others are singer-songwriters DJ Kayan, Kavya, Tejas, Mali, Tanmaya Bhatnagar, and Aadya; electronic artists like Sandunes, Kumail, Parimal Shais; and rapper Siri. Sway to bands like Divine, Bombay Brass, The F16s, Aswekeepsearching, Easy Wanderlings, T.ill APES, The Yellow Diary, Bloodywood. Additionally, Mumbai-based bassist Harshit Misra, popular as Hashbass, is reportedly curating a set for the festival, and DJ-producer Abhi Meer is going to be performing a special house music set.
Lollapalooza India is being promoted and co-produced by BookMyShow, along with Perry Farrell and C3 Presents. The event will be held over four stages and an audience of nearly 60,000 over both days is expected. If you’re going, you probably already know that tickets get sold out fast!
