Saree

Nothing can ever beat the beauty and elegance of a saree. But as much as we love the beautiful drapes, they lie in our wardrobes in all their glory, taken out only during big family functions or festivals. The infrequency of wearing a saree has only added to the cumbersomeness that we attach to donning one, further limiting its use. But two women from Bengaluru are set to change that.

Ally Matthan and Anju Maudgal Kadam formed a pact to wear 100 sarees in the year 2015 and they declared this on social media under the #100sareepact. The two also urged other women to join in and help change the mindsets of those who see saree as an ‘impractical’, ‘uncomfortable’ or ‘awkward’ option to wear on a daily basis.

The #100sareepact began on March 1 and has seen support from many women across India. People are pulling out old sarees from their wardrobes and posting their pictures with a small nostalgic account while others are flaunting their Masaba prints and newly purchased ikats. Take a look at some women who are bringing sarees back in style.
